The importance of including evaluation as a part of your planning when undertaking a safety promotion or injury prevention campaign was one of the key points made by evaluation expert Anthony Morgan during a VSCN-hosted webinar.

Mr Morgan is the Australian Institute of Criminology’s Research Manager for the Crime Prevention and Evaluation Research program and joined Fiona Dowsley, the Victorian Crime Statistics Agency’s Chief Statistician on the hour-long webinar.

UV and Skin Cancer Prevention

Cancer Council Victoria will host the 3rd International UV and Skin Cancer Prevention Conference in Melbourne from December 7 to 11.

The conference will attract behavioural and epidemiological researchers, clinicians, health promotion and education professionals from around the world, all of whom will have a strong interest in population-based approaches to skin cancer prevention and vitamin D.

Creating impactful social media safety campaigns – the workshop

VSCN’s Social Media workshop, held on October 1, was a resounding success with all attendees reporting they were ‘satisfied’ or ‘very satisfied’ with the content, presentation style and value for money it entailed.

The presentation, by social media expert Row Murray of Kenobi Digital, gave an overview of the social space in 2015 before launching into specifics, tailored to those working in injury prevention and safety promotion. Row talked attendees through setting up an Instagram account and got them posting straight away with a prize given to the best post of the morning.

Abstracts are now being called for presentations at the 2016 World Safety Conference, which will be held in Tampere, Finland, from 18 – 21 September 2016.

The 12th World Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion – Safety 2016 – will be held from 18-21 September 2016 in Tampere, Finland.

Hosted by the Finnish National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) and co-sponsored by WHO, Safety 2016 addresses a broad range of violence and injury prevention topics, including emerging issues in the field.
