At its 2006 conference, the VSCN conferred life memberships to two of its most

honoured members -

Henk Harberts and Mark Hennessy - in recognition of their outstanding leadership in promotiong community safety. Both Henk and Mark were foundation members of the VSCN, both developed and managed significant community safety programs in the Latrobe and Bulla (now Hume) respectively, and both oversaw the accreditation of their communities as WHO Safe Communities in 1996.

"These communities have continued to be recognised by the WHO due in no small part to the efforts of these two magnificent men whom the VSCN is proud to count among its members.

In December 2007, the VSCN conferred life membership to another of its mosthonored members - Sharon Landers -

Sharon was a member of the Executive of the VSCN from 1998-2003 and co-chair in 2003-2004.Sharon has a background in education and taught for a number of years in country and metropolitan high schools throughout Victoria.  For the last twelve years she has worked for the Metropolitan Fire Brigade, Melbourne, in the area of fire prevention, injury prevention and community safety. She was instrumental in developing the MFB’s FIRE ED, Fire Safety Education Program for Primary Schools, and RETIRE ED, a peer educator based fire safety program for older Victorians.

From 2002-2003 she was seconded to Crime Prevention Victoria, Department of Justice, to manage the Community Information Team which was responsible for the delivery of Community Safety Month in Victoria.  On her recent return to the MFB, she has taken up the position of Community Engagement Strategist, to further assist management and local firefighters to work more effectively with communities to reduce community risk.Sharon is particularly interested in cross-sectoral partnership building and working with culturally and linguistically diverse groups.
