Reinvigorated VSCN Executive

The VSCN Executive has welcomed new committee members following last month’s Annual General Meeting, and is looking forward to the fresh perspective and broader representation of the sector the new representatives will be able to contribute to the organisation.

Dr Janneke Berecki-Gisolf, Senior Research Fellow at the Monash Injury Research Institute, Metropolitan Fire Brigade Commander Andrew O’Connell and the RACV’s Melinda Spiteri have all volunteered to be active participants on the committee that is shaping the future of VSCN.

What events would you like VSCN to host?

VSCN is putting together its calendar of events for the next six months and we’d like your input into the kinds of events you’d like to attend. Are webinars your thing or would you rather a networking session over lunch?

Are international experts who you’d like to hear or would you rather be kept abreast on what’s happening locally?

How current is your social media knowledge?

What do you think are Australia’s most popular social media networks? Facebook? LinkedIn? Flickr?

With the digital landscape in a state of flux, new social media platforms are constantly challenging the status quo and it can be hard to stay on top of the latest trends to ensure you are getting your safety promotion and injury prevention messages out efficiently and effectively.

Death data now available

The Victorian Injury Surveillance Unit (VISU) now has updated cause of death data, sourced from the Australian Coordinating Registry.

The data will be a boon to those working in the safety promotion and injury prevention space, adding to the hospital admissions and emergency department presentations data already available from VISU, courtesy of the Department of Health.

Job opportunity

A part-time Road Safety Project Officer position is available to coordinate and promote the City of Casey’s existing L2P Learner Driver Mentor Program.

You will play a key role in recruiting volunteers, to mentor young people facing significant barriers in obtaining their probationary licence, through a community engagement approach.

Get safely social – Early bird registrations now open

Should your safety campaign utilise Twitter or Facebook? Instagram or Snapchat?

Using the wrong social media channel for your target audience is like throwing a party and sending invitations to the wrong address. Avoid standing in the proverbial kitchen and ensure you know where your target market is spending time in cyberspace by booking your spot at VSCN’s Smart Ways to Promote Safety with Social Media workshop.

Simple safety prevents complex injury

The Royal Children’s Hospital Safety Centre has created a new online resource to tackle the number one cause of injury to children in Victoria – falls.

Bringing Inbox To Google Apps For Work Customers

Last Fall, Google started its (slow) rollout of Inbox, its completely redesigned email experience for Gmail on the web and mobile. Even today, it’s still an invite-only service (but invites are pretty easy to come by these days).

Until now, however, it wasn’t possible to use Inbox with Google Apps for Work accounts. That’s changing today. Google has now launched an invite process that allows Google Apps for Work admins to request access to the service.
