Incorporating statistics and evaluation into your safety campaigns.

The importance of including evaluation as a part of your planning when undertaking a safety promotion or injury prevention campaign was one of the key points made by evaluation expert Anthony Morgan during a VSCN-hosted webinar.

Mr Morgan is the Australian Institute of Criminology’s Research Manager for the Crime Prevention and Evaluation Research program and joined Fiona Dowsley, the Victorian Crime Statistics Agency’s Chief Statistician on the hour-long webinar.

Intelligent transport systems coming to Melbourne

Check out this YouTube video of ITA Australia’s 23rd World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems, which is to be held in Melbourne from 10 – 14 October 2016.

Australia is at the forefront of development and deployment of ITS technologies in many fields. Our population is clustered in big cities with large urban areas where ITS technology such as managed motorways and free flow tolling are being leveraged to maintain the mobility of our growing cities.

Long transport distances across our vast country encourage innovation and adoption of technology across our heavy vehicle fleet to enhance safety and efficiency. Australia has a strong and innovative mining sector that has embraced ITS technology such as driverless trains and driverless vehicles to improve efficiency and safety in tough economic conditions.

Reinvigorated VSCN Executive

The VSCN Executive has welcomed new committee members following last month’s Annual General Meeting, and is looking forward to the fresh perspective and broader representation of the sector the new representatives will be able to contribute to the organisation.

Dr Janneke Berecki-Gisolf, Senior Research Fellow at the Monash Injury Research Institute, Metropolitan Fire Brigade Commander Andrew O’Connell and the RACV’s Melinda Spiteri have all volunteered to be active participants on the committee that is shaping the future of VSCN.

What events would you like VSCN to host?

VSCN is putting together its calendar of events for the next six months and we’d like your input into the kinds of events you’d like to attend. Are webinars your thing or would you rather a networking session over lunch?

Are international experts who you’d like to hear or would you rather be kept abreast on what’s happening locally?
